Summary of the Opportunity for enviroMETS Participants

Consulting opportunities as forward-thinking mining regions back enviroMETS

Innovative ‘Post-Mining Land Use’ will gain a new multi-criteria business case assessment tool to accelerate investment and redevelopment through the Queensland Government Regional Economic Futures Fund.

The North West Minerals Region, Greater Whitsundays / Bowen Basin, and the Central Highlands are, and will continue to be impacted by changes to the mining landscape as mining activities change. These three forward thinking regions are invested in supporting enviroMETS Lighthouse Project Two (LHP2), which will develop a multi-criteria business case tool to assess and compare innovative new options for land use after mining.

CRC TiME - Lead Research Partner

enviroMETS and CRC TiME collaborated on Lighthouse Project One (LHP1) PMLU Regulatory and Industry Practices stage, and this mutually beneficial partnership continues.

LHP2 kicked off in July, detailing and building out the scope with its lead research partner, @CRC TiME. CRC TiME have a synergistic mutual interest in LHP2 as it accelerates its broader project and leverages the Queensland focus of enviroMETS regional pilot site and METS sector development strategy.

Expressions of Interest open

Following the funding announcement, enviroMETS is calling for Expressions of Interest for members within its extensive ecosystem of independent researchers, consultants, industry partners and other agencies to develop several quantified value modules.

This is a commercial consultancy opportunity for subject matter experts capable of developing a reliable method to assess and quantify estimated value impact of potential PMLU strategies consistent with their professional experience in the field.

Further information is available on the enviroMETS.net.au website. Note that this opportunity is only open to registered participants.

Five areas of PMLU value

@enviroMETS identifies five distinct areas of future value in closing and abandoned mining sites. The project will develop five structured modules that quantify value generated by different comparable land use options. These modules will coordinate and compare the ‘net best value’ across all options for each site.

Subject matter experts are invited in the following areas;

1: Identifying and valuing prospective further mineral extraction: This module is likely to attract a range of mining industry consultants familiar with new extraction technologies, secondary prospectively, and innovative mining operations.

2: Repurposing sites for innovative non-mining commercial operations: This module is likely to interest entrepreneurs, non-mining business consultants and others who can identify other value opportunities transferable from other industries or jurisdictions.

3: Assessing social impact of community change: This module requires organisations or individuals with strong experience in understanding the breadth of social impact of industry change on jobs, skills, families, communities and regions, including quantifying the cost and revenue implications for local, state and national government.

4: Evaluating changes to natural environment and biodiversity: Environmental scientists and engineers with a quantitative mindset and experience in a wide range of mining industry environmental challenges will be well placed to fulfill this module development.

5: Understanding and estimating tangible value of cultural and heritage: We intend to engage organisations working with indigenous and/or European heritage who can translate value uplift in quantitative terms of preserving and enhancing this cultural heritage into sustainable value.

Register your interest now - Response date extended to 31-October.

Our projects run briskly and seek to deliver useable and practical results with a relatively short turnaround.

Our action research style lends itself to organisations that are agile and work with a pragmatic commercial industry mindset.

We expect to have first pass workable modules available for regional case study testing early 2025, with the integrated toolkit version mid-year.
